Winter Nail Fungus Treatment

As we approach the winter months, the way we care for our skin and our bodies changes. Going from exposed skin to covered skin leads to dryness and other superficial problems. Our toes are susceptible to something more sinister. Nail fungus isn’t a glamorous topic, but it happens to the best of us! As fungus can be acquired from many environments, it’s easy to fall prey. While our feet are covered during the colder months, the warm and moist spaces inside our socks foster fungal growth. Fortunately, onychomycosis (fungal infection of the nail) is treatable. At our Jacksonville Beach clinic, we treat fungus at its source to remove the root of the problem. Forget months of repeated application of topical creams or daily pills – our Genesis laser targets the fungus to remove it for good.

How Did My Nails Become Infected?

Onychomycosis is commonly caused by a fungus, but can also stem from exposure to certain yeasts and molds. These can be picked up from any surrounding, especially if it is warm and moist. They will invade even tiny cuts at your toes or fingertips to infect single or multiple nails. Infection is more common in the toes because they are isolated in warm, slightly wet spaces. Blood circulation to the toes is also often poor, meaning the body’s immune system doesn’te recognize and fight the infection.

Once nail fungus has taken hold, you will notice a tiny white or yellow spot under the tip of a toenail or fingernail. As the fungus progresses, the nail may become brittle, yellow, weak, odorous, and painful, and it may separate from the nail. End the discomfort and unsightliness with Genesis laser treatment.

Genesis Laser Treatment for Nail Fungus

The Genesis laser is incredibly gentle yet effective. Most patients feel nothing more than a tingling or warming sensation during treatment, and require no anesthetic. Each toe or finger will be treated to prevent spread or perpetuation of infection. Each treatment takes 15-30 minutes, and most patients require 4 treatments in all. As the infected portion of the nail grows out, clear nail growth will show beneath, and your extremities will be returned to normal.
